Why It’s Essential

Assessment is an important part of a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) because it helps educators to identify the academic and behavioral needs of students, monitor their progress, and provide appropriate interventions. These practices help to inform instruction, evaluate the effectiveness of interventions, and determine the level of support needed for each student. Assessment data also helps to guide decision making and problem solving within MTSS teams.

Supported by the ND Department of Public Instruction and through ND Regional Education Association collaboration, this professional learning opportunity ensures educators are equipped to harness the power of data for student success.

Through hands-on experiences, learn key guidelines and tips for interpreting data and viewing reports at the student, classroom, school, district, and national levels. Learn how to really understand and apply the data to guide instruction and intervention, plan student groupings, etc. See how to use data to facilitate improved educational outcomes for students.

Learning Objectives:

  • Reflect on the purpose of benchmark screening and progress monitoring, as well as the key principles of data analysis and utilization within your school system
  • Access key group benchmark reports and distinguish what reports can predict future outcomes and/or how each can drive timely, standards-based instructional choices
  • Practice using specific benchmark data for program evaluation, as well as individual student support and instruction development
